20 women benefit from mentor-mentee program

-

KOTA KINABALU: About 20 women who are in their 30s benefited from a millennial women mentor-mentee programme aimed at encouraging more women to become entrepreneurs.

Hanaa Abdullah, a mentor who organized the programme two years in a row, said initially 40 women signed up for the programme but some pulled out at the very last minute.

She found such attitude upsetting as others who were keen would have taken their place and benefited from the programme.

She added that she found many women having such attitude and warned that their unwillingness to commit and communicate would hold them back from achieving success.

“They don’t understand the sense of professionalism,” she argued.

Nevertheless, she was pleased with the outcome of the one-day programme, even though the number of participants were practically cut by half due to last minute cancellations.

“We decided to have it on a small scale and the ladies who have participated in similar programme last year and have become more successful in their career decided to share their story,” she said.

She said they strove to inspire other young women to become just as successful in whatever undertakings they chose for themselves.

Also present at the event was hotelier Eliza Goh.
