Malanjum's successor now 'two-mln dollar question'

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum yesterday quipped that the 'million dollar question' questioned on Thursday about his successor has now become the 'two-million dollar' question.

On Thursday, Malanjum when asked on his successor had replied in jest that it was 'a million dollar question' and that it was the prerogative of the King.

The top judge who is due to retire early next month said this to reporters when met at the launch of the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) report on the International Framework for Court Excellence (IFCE) Malaysia here yesterday.

Pressed further if his successor has been identified, he continued his banter with the reporters saying; "I have a bit of amnesia. I can't remember, seriously I can't remember”.

Earlier, Malanjum had launched the report on the IFCE and ‘SelfRepresented Litigant' segment in the Malaysian judiciary's official website at a leading hotel here.

The IFCE report is the result of an assessment that was conducted in October 2018 to analyse the courts' performance and quality based on seven legal areas.

Malanjun was Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak before he was appointed as the Chief Justice. He was appointed on July 11 last year, replacing Tun Md Raus Sharif who resigned. - Bernama
