-

KOTA KINABALU: Seri Mengasih yesterday received RM20,000 from Lonpac Insurance Bhd (Lonpac) to sponsor its charity event dubbed the Heroes Run 4.0, which will be held on April 7.

The Heroes Run 4.0 will be held at the St Simon Educational Complex in Kingfisher and this will be the fourth time it is carried out since 2016.

According to Seri Mengasih director, Monica Chua, they were expecting 1,800 people to turn up for the run.

The run is divided into two categories – the 10 km run and 3 km run.

“To date, there are still available slots for the 10 km category but the 3 km family fun run is closed,” she said.

She added that the Seri Mengasih Heroes Run was first organized in 2016 primarily as a fund-raising project to raise funds for the operations cost of Seri Mengasih which runs into more than RM70,000 per month with 30 percent contributed by parents whilst the rest must be raised through fund raising or public donation.

Apart from fundraising, the run is also aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and creating greater awareness of persons with intellectual disabilities in the community and highlighting them as heroes, she said.

Persons with disabilities who take part in the run will be charged a minimal registration fee of RM60 for two persons.

To date, more than 100 persons with disabilities have registered to take part in the 3 km family run.
