Stop pinching members

- By Jenne Lajiun

KOTA KINABALU: The practice of pinching members from likeminded political parties by some leaders must be addressed as it will destabilise the government, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau.

“We are in the same boat; what’s the use of pinching the crew from the other room? Isn’t it better for us to work together and strengthen one another?” said Tangau.

He pointed out that the Chief Minister had repeatedly reminded them to be united and respect one another, and contribute to the political strength of the government of Sabah.

“I do not agree with pinching members, especially by leaders of parties that had the same aim as us.

“Of course, it is different if the members left their party and joined us,” he said after chairing the Upko supreme committee meeting on Monday evening.

“I am stressing this point because there are too many complaints at the grassroots on the issue. Some are being promised the moon and the stars with the condition that these members followed other parties,” he said.

He also reminded that the Sabah coalition government between Warisan, Upko, PKR and DAP had been established for nearly a year.

“It is sad if we are still pinching members and leaders from the parties that formed the government together,” he said.

Though Tangau did not state whom he was referring to, it is believed that he was commenting on the decision of Bersatu Sabah to accept former Upko assemblyman Datuk Bobbey Suan of Nabawan.
