Call for govt to fulfil promises

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan) delegates at its 6th annual general meeting (AGM) last month passed six motions, including one that urges the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to fulfil its promises made during the 14th general election.

The PH coalition should not focus on blaming the former BN government, but should instead focus on bringing about higher economic growth and better wellbeing of the people of Sabah, a statement from Gagasan said yesterday.

“We also objected to the state government’s proposal to allocate an island to house the so-called refugees from other countries and will press on the reinstatement and recognition of the Sabah’s rights as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“We, the delegates, also urge the government to honour the 20 per cent oil sharing to Sabah as promised during the GE14,” the statement read, adding that Gagasan’ Woman Wing emphasized on respecting Islam as the state official religion, and wished to be given equal and fair opportunities in all fields.

The AGM was held on April 28 at the Wisma Kinsabina in Penampang and attended by 250 delegates from the various divisions in Sabah.

The supreme council members for 2019 to 2023 were duly elected and appointed in accordance with the party’s constitutions.

In his opening speech, the party president Dr Ationg Bin Tituh welcomed the delegates and he expressed his gratitude to the party for increased number of delegates when compared to the previous years.

He praised the party members, especially party advisor Datuk Francis Goh for their concerted effort in strengthening the party and getting several politicians such as Datuk Dr Hiew King Cheu, Datuk Mohd Basri Abdul Gafar, Stephen Jimbangan, Edward Ewol Mujie and many other leaders to join Gagasan.

Gagasan was formed on August 28, 2013 and registered with the Registrar of Spciety (ROS) as a multi-racial Sabah political party, with the vision to present the views and will of the original Sabahans to the government.

All party members were encouraged to “Turun Padang” throughout the state to be with the people. Gagasan also welcomes all to join forces, especially those who wish to contribute to serve the people of Sabah.
