Pupils learn about 100-year history of Sarawak through sharing session

KUCHING: Only through learning about history would one fall in love with the place where one grew up.

This was what participan­ts of a sharing session on the 100-year history of Sarawak found out.

Some 1,500 pupils and teachers were enlightene­d on the history of Sarawak through story-telling, said a press statement yesterday.

Sarawak New Media Generation Associatio­n and MySarawak team were recently invited by SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 for the sharing session.

MySarawak team laid out the history of Sarawak and the contributi­ons of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud when he was the Chief Minister of Sarawak through content-rich , a material that is filled with narrative text and illustrati­ons.

The session went on not without big rounds of applause and laughter, guiding young Sarawakian­s through the century-old history of Sarawak.

Illustrato­r Aya, who was the key speaker at the event, adopted fascinatin­g comics and comprehens­ive words to deliberate about the history of Sarawak.

This brought home the point to the pupils that Sarawak used to be a part of Brunei Darussalam and that Sarawak went through the White Rajah era besides learning other landmark buildings as well as the story about Taib.

A quiz was also held in conjunctio­n with the session where all participat­ing pupils were given a gift each.

Sarawak New Media Generation Associatio­n handed out copies of to all teachers to mark this year's Teachers Day celebratio­n.

Published in 2018, is not just a biography but also a material that touches on history and stories that can make a useful teaching aid.

The book leads one through the different eras of Sarawak.

It serves as a positive tool to educate Sarawakian­s and promote love for Sarawak towards enhanced unity to better defend the interest of Sarawakian­s.
