Replace the senator – PKR Sabah Women

-

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Women wing has urgedthe party leadership to seriously consider replacing Senator Mohd Imran Abd Hamid with someone who is more capable and of "sound mind".

PKR Sabah Women chief Rahimah Majid said such a move is only appropriate and necessary in order to send out a clear and firm message against derogatory proposal made by Mohd Imran for laws to "protect" men from being "seduced" by women into committing sex crimes.

He proposed this when taking part in debates on the Syarie Legal Profession (Federal Territories) Bill 2019 on Wednesday (July 31).

A retired navy commodore and former Lumut MP, Mohd Imran added that his proposal should be given due consideration so that "the men in this country are safe, and the country is peaceful".

In a terse response issued on Thursday, Rahimah, who is also a PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) member, stressed it is necessary that PKR must be seen to be doing the right thing by taking drastic action against Mohd Imran whose absurd and derogatory proposal had clearly tarnished the image of the country, the Parliament and the party.

"By now, his perverted thought of perceiving and portraying the women folks in the country as the 'seducers and sinners' has become an international laughing stock."

"Please bear in mind that this is not the first time that he has made such an outrageously insulting remark against women. In 2015, while debating in the Dewan Rakyat, he suggested that participants wearing sexy attire at sporting events could lead to illicit sex if they mingled freely with people.

"As a responsible, trustworthy political party, what more as a key component party of the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition, PKR must always strive to set a good example for its members, followers and supporters by doing what is right, and in this case, to replace this Senator Mohd Imran with someone who is more capable and of sound mind, failing which, PKR will risk losing its integrity and be shunned by the people," she said.

The PKR Kudat division chief warned that any lesser or lenient action by the party leadership would send out the wrong message that PKR too is in support of Mohd Imran's ridiculous proposal.

"Senator Mohd Imran's ludicrous proposal is akin to asking the government to enact laws to protect the corrupt government officials from being bribed by others or, to protect the snatch thieves from being lured by the victims.

"As a progressive, soundminded nation and society, we must collectively and vehemently voice our concern and disapproval to politicians with such nonsensical, outrageous viewpoints, failing which, we risk reducing ourselves to a pariah state," she said.
