Install barriers, road signs to prevent U-turn call

-

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth assistant secretary Joseph Kong has urged Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Peter Anthony to look into road planning in the State, particularly to enhance warning signs at certain areas where existing signages were lacking or ambiguous.

He said some motorists tend to take shortcuts or ignore road signs for their own convenience but such actions could endanger other road users.

“The reckless driving of some motorists, especially as they exit junctions, could cause accidents to happen.”

For instance, Kong said, many drivers made illegal U-turn to Penampang as soon as they exited the junction at Lido near Public Bank.

“This not only endangers motorists travelling on the opposite lanes, but often cause drivers behind having to hit the brakes abruptly to avoid a collision,” he said in a statement yesterday.

As such, he hoped that the relevant authority could install barriers and road signs that could effectively prevent drivers from making illegal U-turns.

“It may be a challenge for enforcement agencies to nab the offenders.

“By installing the barriers, we can at least ensure the safety of other road users.”

Kong also urged Peter to address these issues before any serious accidents occurred.

At the same time, he called on motorists to abide the regulations. “Don't put the safety of others and yourself at risk by driving recklessly.

“The most important thing is to arrive at your destination safely.”
