Christina, Phoong invited to KKJA Press Night

Kota Kinabalu Journalist­s Associatio­n (KKJA) has extended its invitation to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew and State Minister of Youth and Sports Phoong Jin Zhe to the annual Press Night held at Putera Theatre Ballroom on August 31.

KKJA chairman Yong Ted Phen led the committee to call on Liew, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t recently and briefed the latter on the associatio­n’s upcoming event.

“I am happy to attend the event to celebrate Press Night with friends from the media fraternity.”

She also voiced her appreciati­on towards journalist­s and editors for their fair reporting as well as contributi­on in disseminat­ing government policies to the people and conveying matters concerning the people to the government.

Liew pledged to sponsor the event in support of KKJA as well.

In a separate courtesy call, Phoong said the media practition­ers played an important role in keeping the society informed.

Phoong said he was also a graduate of media studies and had once considered venturing into the newspaper industry but ended up pursuing a different path instead.

The minister vowed to attend and support the event, especially when he was a media graduate himself.

Also present were KKJA deputy chairman Tang Pok Ngai, vice chairperso­n Nancy Lai, secretary Eunice Ng, welfare officer James Tseu and training officer Suraidah Roslan.
