Using creativity in learning English

-

There is plenty of room for the business and creative players in the state to work together, said Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

“Up to now, there has been a wide gap between business and creativity, and they have been considered mutually exclusive.

“However, people in both disciplines are discovering that each has much to offer to the other, and there is a need for their skills to be nurtured in a safe and creative space,” said Yusof.

He reckoned that activities like drama, dance and art could improve one’s skills in the business industry.

“Writing is used everywhere, in all fields. Having a good command of language would enable one to present his ideas and information clearly,” said Yusof in his speech read by his assistant Jenifer Lasimbang at the WordPower Sabah Programme launching, here yesterday.

The programme features over 20 experts in all kinds of English communication fields and they will be presenting a series of talks, workshops and performance over the next three days.

Designed to engage and inspire, WordPower will be using creativity through writing, speaking and performing arts to engage and inspire participants of all ages to have fun while learning and gaining confidence in English.

The programme is the brainchild of Sabah’s own storyteller and theatre practitioner, Susan Bansin and Sylvia Howe, a writer and editor from the United Kingdom.
