SUPP branch denies Dr Sim gave Chinese rights away

-

The Pelawan branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has defended party president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is accused of giving away Chinese rights and interests after being appointed as Sarawak’s Minister of Local Government and Housing.

In a statement yesterday, SUPP Pelawan said Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) ‘should get a mirror for their party president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh before making any accusation against the SUPP’.

“For the past 20 years, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has been the only state minister in Sibu. His portfolio has included Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, Minister of Environment and Public Health, Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Minister of International Trade and ECommerce, and Second Minister of Finance.

“Then, why have so many infrastructures in Sibu remained undeveloped for 20 years, despite the fact that he (Wong) has overseen various ministries in Sarawak government?

“The most obvious one is the Old Oya Road, which continues to be plagued with daily traffic jams. “Furthermore, Jalan Ding Lik Kong, Jalan Ulu Sungei Merah as well as the Airport Road are all infamous for their traffic jams and poor conditions,” said the SUPP branch in response to PSB’s recent accusation against Dr Sim, which was highlighted on local Chinese dailies.

SUPP Pelawan further pointed out that Wong had not even mentioned the afore-mentioned issues during his tenure as ‘the minister for Sibu’.

The branch claimed that residents in Rejang Park, Sibu had been forced to bear with the broken central sewage system, and also the bad smell that came with it, for many years.

“Only through SUPP Pelawan’s persistent requests made to Sarawak government, that our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari (Tun Openg) had approved RM3 million to repair the sewage system,” said the statement.
