Third time lucky teacher wins Maggi’s grand prize

-

KUCHING: It was third time lucky for Wan Abdullah Wan Abdul Hamid who won the grand prize of a limited edition Isuzu D-Max X-Series pickup truck worth RM136,000 at ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama Maggi’ grand finale yesterday.

The 45-year-old teacher from SK Kampung Senari could barely contain his excitement when met by The Borneo Post at Plaza Merdeka here.

“Winning the grand prize was unexpected. Even though I joined two previous editions of the contest, this was the first time I was called as a finalist,” he said, adding that he had submitted a lot of entries for this year’s competition from May 1 to June 30.

In grand finale Wan Abdullah was up against Saging Giri and Zulmadia Kilok in a series of challenges such as the Maggi Shopper Challenger, Maggi Wire Buzz Challenge and Maggi ‘2 Cara’ Cook-Off before he was declared as the winner.

“I thought the second challenge (the wire buzz challenge) was actually pretty fun and not so difficult compared to the shopper challenge and the cooking challenge,” said the father of two who revealed that Maggi noodles were something of a staple at home.

“With my wife working overseas, there’s just the three of us at home so the easiest way is just to tapao (take-away). But if we don’t feel like tapao, then Maggi is the solution since we all like Maggi,” he added.

Meanwhile, Saging and Zulmadia were declared the first and second runner-ups winning RM5,000 and RM,3000 respectively.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh who was present at the event commended Maggi for holding the contest in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebrations.

“This shows that Maggi recognises the significance of the festive occasions here and I want to applaud Maggi for reaching out to our diverse ethnic groups. I encourage Maggi to further reach out to Sarawakian communites by organising more roadshows that promote Maggi’s objectives.

“I also hope to see some Maggi flavours that are unique to Sarawak in the future,” Miro said in his speech.

Also present were Maggi Malaysia business executive officer Geetha Balakrishna, Nestle Malaysia general sales operation manager for Sarawak Lee Tsuen Fu, Harrisons Sarawak Sdn Bhd director Lo Chow Nyian and Everrise group merchandising manager June Lee.

This year’s ‘Jom Masak & Menang Bersama Maggi’ contest was the fifth edition of the competition with 12 roadshows held in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

Over 132,000 entries were this year, an increase of 13 per cent increase compared to last year.
