Sabah Sports School hockey squad lift girls' under-14 title
Malaysia Sports School Sabah (SSMS) showed their prowess by lifting the girls' under-14 title at the 22nd Thailand Sports School Games in Khon Kaen yesterday.
Played at the Khon Kaen University hockey field, the SSMS squad defeated Chonburi 4-0 in the final.
Chrisne Jairin was the toast of the squad when the Kota Marudu-born player netted twice in the 18th and 26th minutes.
Ajurah Kauran of Keningau gave SSMS a bright start by scoring in the second minute while Nur Shafiera Adreiana Mohd Fazrizey of Labuan got the fourth goal in the 43rd minute for a comfortable win.
In the semi-final, the SSMS girls had beaten another Thai team Angthong 5-0 who went on to win the bronze.
SSMS also capped their title-winning outing with individual awards for Chrisne as the Best Player while team coach Md Aminuddin Ibrahim was the Best Coach.
Team manager Mohd Kasnizam Abdul Kassim said they were extremely happy not only to have won the gold but more importantly the experience playing against international teams would be ideal for their development.
"I hope this will further motivate them to train harder in order to achieve excellence," he said while extending his congratulations to all for a job well done.
For the record, the ongoing Thailand Sports School Games is organised by the the Institute of Physical Education of Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
The multi-sport Games attracted sports schools from within and outside of Thailand, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and the Philippines.
