Shareda backs govt’s effort to boost Sabah economy

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers (Shareda) is committed to supporting the State Government in boosting the Sabah economy.

Its president, Chew Sang Hai, said the members were also keen on the suggestion by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal to develop more real estate projects in the State.

In the current economic state of Sabah, Chew said Shareda had discussed working in tandem with the State Government to develop as well as bring in more real estate projects to Sabah.

“As president, I’m pleased that our members responded positively to the suggestion to invest in and launch new projects in Sabah. This would in turn drive economic growth and create job opportunities, especially for youths.

“That said, we would be giving special recognition to five chosen developers, for supporting the State Government’s initiative,” said Chew.

Speaking at a press conference announcing Shareda Night 2019, Chew said targeted sales for real estate in Sabah had been set at RM600 million, with current sales approaching RM500 million.

Despite economic challenges, Chew said the east coast recorded marked increase in sales compared to the previous year.

“The east coast, including Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Tawau, contribute to 30 per cent of recorded sales in real estate this year, which is a good sign.

“This year, the real estate sector shows positive growth as those who were previously observers are stepping forward to take part in real estate development,” he elaborated.

Chew said for this year’s Shareda Night, a crowd of 1,000 were expected to attend on September 20.

He further said Shareda would continue to attract more foreign investment to Sabah, to improve quality of life for the people through integration with international brands.
