52 drug offenders in KK area detained in police ops

KOTA KINABALU: Fifty-two persons were arrested by police on suspicion of committing various drug offences and RM2,198 worth of drugs were seized from the suspects.

Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Superinten­dent George Abd Rakman said the suspects were aged between 16 and 57 years old and that 31 of them are locals.

They were picked up from several locations in the state capital, including Inanam, Kampung Sembulan and Kampung Labou during the ongoing police Ops Sarang and anti-narcotics operations.

“We recovered 14.87 grams of syabu and 9.7 grams of ketamine from a few of the suspects. They will be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 under Sections 39 (A)(1), 12(2) and 15 (1)(A),” he disclosed.

George also said that the police had conducted an operation to weed out illegal immigrants in the state capital on Saturday where 80 people were checked and 10 individual­s, including a child, were later arrested for not having identifica­tion documents.

The operation was conducted at seven locations in the state capital.
