Duo detained for beating up man over alleged rape
PAPAR: Police have detained two men for beating up a helpless man following a police report lodged by the 30-year-old victim at the Papar Police Station on Wednesday.
A 39-second video clip showing the alleged action of the two assailants went viral on social media.
Disclosing this yesterday, Papar Police Chief DSP Batholomew Umpit said both men, in their 30s, were detained by police following a police report lodged against the suspects.
“Police investigation revealed that the a ack took place when the victim was accused of raping a woman.
“The two a ackers, who have no relationship with the woman, however took ma ers into their own hand by beating up the victim.
“Police investigation however shows that no police report was ever lodged by the woman pertaining to the alleged rape,” said Batholomew.
A 39-second clip of the a ack went viral in social media showing two men beating up the victim to the ground.
The woman, who claimed to have been raped, can also be seen in the clip.
Batholomew said the victim was currently warded at the Papar Hospital for facial injury, while the suspects were remanded and would be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
The suspects might face a one-year in jail or a fine or both if found guilty, he said.
In the 39-second clip, the suspects are seen beating up the victim.
