19 evac­u­ated in Beau­fort flood

Eight fam­i­lies, com­pris­ing 19 peo­ple, in­clud­ing five chil­dren, were evac­u­ated from their homes due to flood in Beau­fort yes­ter­day.

BEAU­FORT: Eight fam­i­lies, com­pris­ing 19 peo­ple, in­clud­ing five chil­dren, were evac­u­ated from their homes due to flood in Beau­fort yes­ter­day.

Sabah Civil De­fence Force (APM) di­rec­tor Colonel Ka­mal Mokhtar said the fam­i­lies, from Kam­pung Baitam, Jam­batan Baru and Kam­pung Baru, were cur­rently placed at the tem­po­rary flood evac­u­a­tion cen­tre Se­lagon Com­mu­nity Hall since 8am yes­ter­day.

“At press time, eight other vil­lages, namely Kg Bam­ban­gan, Kg Si­noko, Kg Sin­dok, Kg Baitam Ulu, Kg Lu­man­tak, Kg Baitam Laut, Kg Kayai and Kg Pa­pas, were also af­fected by the flood, while water level is at 6.80 me­tres,” he said.

Three main roads, Jalan Kam­pung Bam­ban­gan-Pulih, Jalan Si­noko-Pulih and

Jalan Por­ing were closed as they were im­pass­able to all ve­hi­cles.

Ka­mal added that APM was still mon­i­tor­ing the flood sit­u­a­tion in Beau­fort and the lat­est in­for­ma­tion would be up­dated from time to time.
