4,300 to benefit from Back To School program
SIPITANG: Yayasan Petronas will be contributing new sets of school supplies to a total of 4,300 primary school students in conjunction with its Back To School 2019 (BTS 2019) programme.
The students who are all from the Bottom 40 per cent (B40) households will each receive a school bag, tumbler, poncho, stationery along with two pairs of school uniform, a pair of socks and shoes.
A total of 4,000 of them are from Sabah while the remaining 300 are from Labuan.
The handing-over ceremony of BTS 2019 items for Sipitang district took place here yesterday, involving 500 students, attended by Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob and Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Kamis A Manap.
“We’re glad to be able to help these students prepare for the coming academic year. We hope that by removing one of the barriers that students from lowincome families often experience, they will be motivated to stay and finish school,” said Kamis.
Apart from Sipitang, the BTS 2019 also reaches out to students in several other districts, namely Kuala Penyu, Kudat, Lahad Datu, Penampang, Sandakan, Semporna, Tawau, Beaufort, Papar, and Tuaran. Labuan students received their items at a ceremony last week.
BTS 2019 runs from midOctober to November 2019, involving a total of 21,000 students nationwide, supported by more than 800 Petronas volunteers who selected school uniforms and shoes for the children, as well as packing and delivering the items to schools.
Yayasan Petronas is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Petronas – a body that seeks to contribute to the well being of society.
