Dr Juanda clarifies the word ‘ulun’ not meant to be a racial insult

-

Words used during the 2020 State Budget debate was never intended to stir up racial issues and hurt feelings of any race in Sarawak, said Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya (GPS-Jemoreng).

On Nov 10, Democratic Action Party Serian Youth chief Brolin Nicholsion said a police report had been lodged against Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya for uttering the world ‘ulun’ in the assembly meeting on Nov 6.

Brolin said the word ‘ulun’ is an extremely degrading word and it is also an insult to the Dayak community.

“I would like to stress again that we do not have the illintention to disregard the feelings of other races in the state,” said Juana during a press conference held at the State Legislative Assembly’s building media room yesterday.

He said that matters brought up at the State Legislative Assembly were only to safeguard the best interest of Sarawak and he hoped assemblymen be allowed to speak their mind during the debate.

“It is better if we can fight together for the betterment of Sarawak where development can be brought to every corner of the state,” said Juanda.

Juanda said that he will provide full cooperation to the police if required to do so.

He pointed out that no dissent was recorded from the opposition when he uttered the controversial word in his debate speech.

He believed the person who lodged the police report against him obviously wanted to provoke racial hostility and misunderstanding in the state.
