Improve other KundasangRanau roads – SAPP
KUNDASANG: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) deputy president Japiril Suhaimin, urged the government to grant allocations for improvement of the Kundasang-Ranau alternative roads as well.
“There are four gravel roads namely Kundasang - Mahimboyon Kibbas, Kundasang-Kinandusan Pinausok, Kundasang-KauluanPinausok and Kundasang-Bundu Tuhan-Himbaan which serve as alternative roads during the Kundasang-Ranau landslide on December 8 last year,” hae said.
Since they were being used a er the main road was cut off, he said these roads are important and crucial as they will be used in the event of landslides in future.
Japiril said the state’s economy is affected by the KundasangRanau collapsed road because it is an important transportation route linking the east and west of Sabah.
“These roads were once used in 2011 as an alternative route and therefore should and need to be improved or upgraded because they could be used again in the event of landslides in future. The fare from Kundasang to Ranau has now increased from RM4 to RM6 and journey which usually take 20 minutes is now extended to almost an hour. The other problem is garbage and trash not regularly picked up by the Ranau District Council thus causing great nuisance and hazardous to health,” he complained.
However, Japiril said some people are also concerned so they take the trouble to send their garbage and trash to the disposal centre in Ranau by themselves.
“Students from Kundasang are now forced to use the alternative road because SMK Kundasang is located in Ranau. On January 2, the Minister of Infrastructure Development announced in his Facebook posting of approving a RM156 million allocation to improve the roads in Bongawan. The announcement was also posted by a local online news portal the same day,” he said.
Japiril said the sudden announcement by the minister came just ahead of the impending Kimanis by-election.
“Is it maybe we need to wait for a by-election in Ranau or Kundasang before ge ing allocation for improvements of our alternative roads? Furthermore, we have four YBs in Ranau and they should speak up for the sake of the people,” he added.
