Toraja association aims to foster racial harmony
TAWAU: Newly-registered Persatuan Komuniti Toraja Malaysia (PKTM) hopes to look after the welfare of its members and helps the government with its policies by creating harmony among the various races in the country.
PKTM president, Datuk Kalina Ka Yee, when officiating at the Tawau PKTM branch thanksgiving program on Sunday night, said the association’s objective is to help its members by creating a quality and innovative Toraja community with leaders that can help with the country’s development.
She said the Tawau branch which covers Kalabakan, Semporna and Kunak is the latest to receive approval from the Registrar of Society.
It consists of seven protem committee members led by Petrus Bernard.
During the program, Kalina received 200 membership application forms from Petrus and is expecting more will join the association.
“PKTM will also accept membership from non-Malaysian provided they have proper documents such as passport and visa,” she said.
Kalina said PKTM is on a mission to establish branches all over Malaysia, and the association is expected to hold a meeting by February to discuss on programs to be implemented for the period of two years.
Meanwhile, Petrus urged the community to inform others about the existence of the association to ensure every Toraja will get attention from PKTM.
