Major projects planned to boost Sipitang's devt
KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has planned several major projects to boost the development of Sipitang, said Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Yusof B. Yacob.
He said the projects which would be implemented included a golf course and a petroleum oil storage and refinery facility.
Yusof said this during a courtesy call by Sipitang Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Yeo Boun Kiat and his committee members, here.
The minister urged the chamber to maintain close cooperation with the State Government and Sipitang District Council to transform Sipitang into a clean and prosperous township.
Meanwhile, Yeo raised several issues during the visit, including complaints from the chamber's members on the Sipitang District Council's decision to ban shop operators from displaying their products at five-foot way, and the urgent need to relocate the existing tamu to ease traffic congestion in town.
In addition, the chamber lamented that the unavailability of Unifi service beyond the Sipitang township was a great inconvenience to the local businesses and hotel operators.
He said the Unifi service is still not available in Sindumin, Mesapol and Batu Satu.
Yeo said Sipitang folks also face frequent water supply disruption.
Yusof vowed that the State Government would do its level best to resolve the issues.
The minister also revealed that he would distribute Mandarin oranges to Sipitang businesses and the people on January 18 in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration.
Sipitang Chinese Chamber of Commerce has invited Yusof to grace its Chinese New Year celebration at Tokong Vie Hun Mesapol on February 8 at 6.30pm.
Also present was the chamber's honorary advisor Lau Kim Ling.
