Local hockey teams give their best against Aussies

KOTA KINABALU: Local side SSMS Resilient gave their best but still found Australian Country Under-21 men's hockey team class above.

The Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Sabah outfit went down 0-3 in their friendly match here yesterday.

It was SSMS Resilient's second defeat against the visiting Aussies having lost 0-2 in their first meeting on Sunday.

Although winless against Aussie juniors, the match was a valuable experience and exposure against superior team for SSMS Resilient comprising players aged between 1419.

The school's principal Madsarin Rahim along with SSMS Parent Teacher Associatio­n (PTA) chairman Hj Dzulkarnai­n Datuk Hj Dzulkifli and Hockey Australia Country Tour Manager Michael Nelson were present during the games.

For the record, the Australian Country teams are here playing in a series of friendly matches.

Their men's under-21 team had beaten Sabah Sukma squad 5-2 on Monday.

They will have another match against Kota Kinabalu Mixed team at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex hockey pitch at 4.30 pm today.

After Sabah, the Aussie squad that also comprise the women's under21 team will leave for Kuching, Sarawak to resume their tour where they will also be involved in several friendly games.
