Police bring down crime cases every year – CP

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah police contingent has once again achieved excellent results in reducing crime cases at the end of every year.

Sabah Police Commission­er Datuk Omar Mammah said the Sabah police managed to reduce crime cases to 5,747 in 2019 from 6,144 cases in 2018, a reduction of 6.46 percent.

He added that the commitment and performanc­e by his men and women in blue were also significan­t when they managed to solve 62.50 percent of recorded crime cases.

“We managed to solve 6.25 percent of every 10 crime cases that were recorded, pu ing us at number six among other police contingent­s in Malaysia,” he said.

He said illegal gambling, however, had increased with 1,879 people being detained in 2019 as compared to 1,447 people in 2018, while 1,363 raids had been made between January and December of last year with 836 computers and RM545,664 cash seized during those raids.

Sabah police have also seized 62 illegal homemade guns or ‘bakakuk’ with 113 people arrested, Omar told a press conference a er launching the motorcycle convoy in conjunctio­n with the Sabah police crime prevention campaign at the state police headquarte­rs in Kepayan yesterday.

“From the arrests, 29 people have been charged in court while the remaining 28 cases are under police investigat­ion,” he said.

For drug cases, a total of 15,401 cases were recorded in 2019 with 11,323 of those cases involved drug abuse.

“Narcotics police have confiscate­d up to 45,331.64 grams of syabu worth RM2.2 million, 1,068.05 grams of ketamin worth RM698,800 and 202,000 ml and and 31.768 gram of Mitragyna Speciosa or daun ketum liquids and leaves respective­ly.

The Marine Operation Force (MOF) had also shown positive achievemen­ts throughout 2019 a er detecting 1,712 offences and issuing RM46,029,906 compounds for those offenses.
