Kim Fung Cultural Night Market to go cashless

-

SANDAKAN: The communities in Sandakan, especially in Elopura are set to enjoy cashless shopping at the Kim Fung Cultural Night Market here which will be rebranded next week.

Elopura State Assemblyman, Calvin Chong Ket Kiun said the effort was in line with the initiative of the government to escalate the digital culture and the transition to a cashless society.

“Two of the three popular e-wallet operators in Sabah, namely, Boost and Grab have been invited to open counters at the launching of the rebranding of the night market next week to enlighten on the use of the ewallet, especially to the operators of the night market stalls.

“The e-wallet services provide ease and comfort to the communities to spend and should be extended to the stall operators at the market,” he told a media conference on the rebranding of the Kim Fung Cultural Night Market here yesterday. Chong said the effort to involve the stall operators in offering e-wallet services was also expected to attract tourists to spend at the market.

He said most of the tourists who often visited the night markets in Sabah were from China and Europe whose societies had shifted to cashless.

On the rebranding of the market, Chong said the weekly night market would also carry the word budaya (cultural) to reflect the multi-racial and multi-cultural communities trading and shopping at the market.

‘’All these while, it was merely named the Kim Fung Night Market, which is the centre of the Elopula area.

“The market is not only selling food and drinks and items of daily needs but it is increasingly getting the response of cultural merchandise traders from various races in Sandakan,” he said.
