Jaujan chairs first meeting of Semporna District Council

-

SEMPORNA: Local Government and Housing Minister cum Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong chaired the first meeting of the district’s development action committee to discuss the development direction for the district yesterday.

He said it is essential to determine the economic and security development as Semporna had become a tourist attraction with many investors wanting to invest here.

Jaujan said the committee is very important to act as an entity that can manage the developments in Semporna.

He said the meeting discussed on things already planned and carried out including road, electricity, water, education, health and security.

Semporna is not that big, he said, therefore the developments must be properly planned and in the meeting plans were made on water, electricity, road and education problems, giving example of Bum-Bum Island that needs another secondary school to cater to the edcuation needs there.

Jaujan said there was also a need for a new administration building where all tthe deparrtments and agencies would be under one roof and quicker to streamline on things such as enforcement.

He said it is important that federal and state departments with the same function and role do not overlap one another which would be a wastage especially when it comes to aid where the money can be channelled to education, security and health.

Formerly every district’s Development Action Committee meeting was chaired by district officer but was directed by the prime minister to be chaired by the member of parliament or assemblyman in order that they would know first-hand the problems happening in the district brought up by heads of departments and agencies.
