Palace Hotel’s first recycled lantern making contest
KOTA KINABALU: The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu recently organized its first recycled lantern making contest specially dedicated to children between 712 years old in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2020.
The contest was created to promote recycling and reuse of material emphasizing creativity and innovation, in line with The Palace Hotel green practices.
This is an opportunity for the children to learn more about recycling, responsible use of resources, and sustainable living through creative exploration while bonding with family in education, sustainability and arts.
The family-friendly event received an enthusiastic response from members of the public who were impressed by the variety of unusual materials and textures that the lantern makers managed to incorporate into their designs.
“Everything starts with a small step. We can start with the 4Rs, which are respect, reduce, reuse and recycle. We are grateful to be given this platform to reach out to the greater public on the need to live Green,” said Chloe Loo, general manager of The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu.
Apart from aiming to further reduce our carbon footprint, we are also working on more environmentally related CSR projects, for example planting more mangrove trees and visiting schools to educate children about living sustainably and responsibly.
According to her, The Palace Hotel has retained its award named Asean Green Hotel Standard 2020-2022 for the second term certification recognised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia.
Winners walked away with RM300 cash, room night stay, meal vouchers, while the first and second place winners were awarded with cash worth RM200 and RM100 respectively.
Eight consolation prize winners received an Ang Pow of RM50 each and all participants will also receive a certification of participation and 1-year free access to the swimming pool.
