Philanthropist contributes RM40,000 to Wuhan Fund
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah philanthropist TK Tan, who is the Managing Director of Excelrun Sdn Bhd, has contributed a sum of RM40,000 to the State-initiated Wuhan Fund in support of the people who are afflicted with COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease).
Accompanied by his General Manager, Juliet Lo, he handed over his contribution to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew during a courtesy call on the latter on Thursday.
Liew is the co-chairperson of the “China, We Care” Charity Dinner, together with co-chairman Tan Sri TC Goh. The event is scheduled to be held on February 18 (Tuesday) at 7pm at the Sabah Hakka Hall here.
Tan, who is the developer of Lintas Plaza and Lintas Station, had said “Let’s do something about it, I want to help” after reading the news about the fund-raising efforts for those suffering from the viral infection in Wuhan. In 2012, the company received the “Anugerah Sumbangan Ikhlas” accolade from the State Government in recognition of his contributions to schools, voluntary welfare organisations and victims of natural disasters, among other beneficiaries.
Liew, who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, expressed her appreciation to Tan for his magnanimous gesture.
“We have received overwhelming response from the business community, tourism industry players, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private individuals throughout Sabah. We thank all of them for their generous contributions,” she said.
