Top golfers to take part in SGCC Amateur and Senior Open
KOTA KINABALU: Attractive Hole-in-One prizes are up for grabs in the Primaland 32nd SGCC Amateur Open and 6th SGCC Senior Open championships happening concurrently next month.
Sabah Golf and Country Club have slated both championships to be held at the same time on March 6-8.
Among the attractive prizes is a RM30,000 purse sponsored by CP Risk Management Sdn Bhd (Hole No. 5 and 17) as well as a brand new Proton Iriz courtesy of Fook Loi Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (Hole No. 8).
Also on offer are McWel 16s Gen Set worth RM20,000 from JPN Industrial Pte Ltd and four barrels of SAE4D Lubricants worth RM6,000 for Holes No. 5, 8, 12 and 17.
“The lucrative Hole-inOne prizes are for both tournaments” said SGCC president-cum-organising chairman Nash Hon at a press conference here, yesterday.
He said the tournaments, which are sanctioned by the state and national governing bodies for the sport, are now open for registration.
“The closing date is February 28 and we expect to receive around 180 entries,” Hon said.
Last year's champions Alexander Lau (Men's Open), Tham Soot Yuet (Women's Open), Peter Tan (Men's Senior) and Dora Mojiniu (Women's Senior) are expected to defend their titles.
And among those to look out for and have confirmed their entries for the Open tournament are Casper Loh, Derrick Kong, Timothy Lo Thien Ming and Maxwin Chiew as well as Senior tournament contenders Ng Loong Fah, Desmond Jong and Ian Quek.
Other contenders like seasoned campaigner Lee Kah Tung is a likely entry to the Open fray.
“The Amateur Open is slate don March 6-8 and the Senior Open on March 6-7,” Hon said, while thanking all the sponsors.
Also present during the press conference at SGCC was Fook Loi chairman Anthony Chiu, executive director Thomas Chiu, SGCC captaincum-tournament director Christopher Liaw, SGCC secretary-cum-tournament secretary Datu Khalilulrahman, SGCC treasurer Raymund Tan and committee captain Sally Chai.
