Maxsius injury blow to league opener

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tambadaus will likely not get the start they are looking for when the Super League season kicks-off next month. This, after local winger Maxsius Musa was carried off the field during the team's match in Indonesia, earlier this week.
The injury occurred during the second half of the match with Persija Jakarta in the Group B match of the East Java Governor's Cup Tournament on Thursday. Losing Maxsius eventually spelled a 2-0 defeat for the Tambadaus.
Team manager Henry Saimpon said Maxsius complained after the game of pain when lifting his arm.
“We took him to the hospital and doctors confirmed by xray that he had dislocated his shoulder,” Henry said when contacted yesterday.
Due to the injury Maxsius is required to rest one month and will miss the team's first Super League match where they will meet Police (PDRM) on March 1.
“I hope no one else will get injured... so that our preparations for the Super League will not be jeopardised further,” Henry said.
The Tambadaus are currently on a preseason stint in Indonesia competing in the Governor's Cup Tournament in East Jakarta. Today they conclude their Group B challenge facing Persela Lamongan.
Earlier they lost 2-0 to Arema FC and defeat to Persija had not helped to brighten their chances of going through to the next stage.
They also lost 3-1 in a friendly with Persebaya Surabaya prior to the tournament.
Meanwhile, head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto will field players with less experience for today's match and Henry hoped they would be cautious not to get injured.
“They need to be careful not to let emotions fly. Our objective here is to strengthen the squad,” Henry said.
