Shareda raises RM200,000 for welfare service

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) has raised RM200,000 in cash and in kind from its council members and members to carry out welfare service due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sabah.

Shareda vice president Wesley Chai Meng Kong said that because of the MCO, many people are affected adversely.

“Some people lost jobs and are suffering from loss of income source. And we’re also short of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) including face masks, sanitizers,” he said.

Because of this awareness, Shareda has decided to raise the funds among its members so that it can also contribute to the betterment of the Covid-19 situation in Sabah, he said.

Wesley also said that Shareda commends Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal and the Sabah Government for the swift actions in controlling the Covid-19 situation in the state.

They are also commended for focusing on the people’s first by providing the “Sabah, We care” special Covid-19 package involving a budget of RM670 million to be deployed in multiple tiers of strategies and measures.

“The people first policy truly united everyone together to provide ideas and contribute to raise Sabah up again,” he said.

“We understand the concerns of the government in lieu of the constraint and the hardship faced by all sectors and the people due to the Covid-19 and we hope that everyone comply with the MCO to stop the spread of the virus.”

He added that since the housing sector is one of the major pillars of the economy in Sabah, Shareda hopes that the government will assist its members in the housing and real estate property sector as it will impact on other related sectors.

Wesley said that helping the housing sector will help boost the economy in Sabah once the MCO period is over.

Meanwhile, for the past two weeks, Shareda has carried out a series of charity activities to distribute medical supplies and essential food items to frontliners and members of the community, he said.

The activities carried out included the distribution of PPEs to the Sabah Health Department; the distribution of food items to the people of Sepanggar; the distribution of food to folks residing in east coast Sabah; the distribution of 35,000 pieces of face masks to Shareda members and the people at large through the elected representatives; and the distribution of face masks and essential food items to the Bukit Harapan and to the Persatuan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan OKU Leshan Kota Kinabalu.
