Fast breaking food for frontliners in Penampang

-

PENAMPANG: Member of Parliament for Penampang, Datuk Darell Leiking, and officials from the Penampang Parliament People Service Centre (MP office) had sent "Buka Puasa Food Basket" to the frontliners in the district during the Ramadhan month.

The program was spearheaded by the MP office which had prepared 175 sets of the food packages and distributed personally to the district police station, the army, Rela, Fire and Rescue Service Department and the Penampang Health Clinic.

In a statement yesterday, Darell said the Penampang Parliament People Service Centre acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices made by all frontliners who are fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Whilst our contribution may be small and simple, our objective today is to convey our sincere appreciation to the frontliners for all the hard work done by them during this critical moment," he said.

Meanwhile, Darell said the decision of the State Government to maintain the status quo of the Movement Control Order (MCO) until May 12 was indeed wise and made by the Chief Minister only after weighing all considerations be it negative and positive.

"It is heartening to hear that many business owners and the general public are in concurrence with the State Government's stance despite the Federal Government's decision," he said.

Besides the issue of Covid-19, Darell was also concerned with the current monsoon season where possible flash floods would happen again in Penampang.

On that premise, he had last month instructed the Penampang District Office and District Council to activate the Flood Disaster Action Committee to ensure the execution of all maintenance works to prevent and mitigate the impact of floods here.

"The same clean up and actions were executed last year which mitigated and prevented major flash flood," he said.
