State govt makes wise decision – assemblyman

-

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government's decision to not implement the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and maintaining the phase four of the MCO is a wise and correct one, said Kemabong assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar.

Jamawi said the decision to observe the phase four of the MCO which is scheduled to end on May 12 is necessary in order to protect the state and its people from the Covid-19 threat.

“We need to ensure that the people are protected from Covid19,” he said, adding that the situation in Sabah is still a cause for concern as there are still districts registering new cases.

Speaking to reporters after handing over food aid to Usia Tenom members recently, Jamawi who is chairman of the Government Supporters Club said that the CMCO which started on Monday in several states, was aimed at generating the economy.

“But it defeats its purpose if the rakyat fall sick and efforts to stem the spread of Covid-19 fail,” he said.

He stressed that there is a need to ensure that all districts in Sabah are categorised as "green zone” before the economic sector is allowed to operate according to SOPs laid down.

“Just look at Hokkaido in

Japan which was hit by a second wave of Covid-19 infections after it decided to lift its state of emergency order earlier than the date set. Therefore the rakyat in Sabah must respect and abide with the State Government's decision to not implement the CMCO.

“Look at it from the positive angle as well as without prejudice as there are other states which also did not implement the CMCO,” he said.

Jamawi added that the decision was not an easy one to make as there were many factors to be considered but the government has to prioritize the rakyat's health.
