SOP for businesses, recreation­al activities in Sandakan

The Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) is implementi­ng the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for businesses and recreation­al activities in accordance with instructio­ns from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s announceme­nt on May 9.

SMC president Wong Foo Tin said all food sectors are allowed to open, except for Ramadan Bazaar, Hari Raya Bazaar, sales carnivals, and ‘Tamu Besar’ (large open market).

Restaurant­s, food courts, food stalls (with roof), kiosks that sell food, food trucks and hawkers (at the side of the road) are allowed to open from 6am to 10pm. They must follow SOP that includes: workers’ body temperatur­e recorded; implement social distancing for workers and customers; and use of hand sanitizer and face mask for all workers. They must also arrange the tables to be at least two metres apart from one another.

Hawkers selling food at markets (with roof) also follow the same SOP, but they are allowed to open from 6am until 6pm.

Night market is allowed to open from 6pm until 10pm, while ‘tamu’ (open market) is allowed to open from 6am until 3pm, once a week. All markets should follow the same SOP.

All grocery stores and mini markets are allowed to open from 6am to 10pm, following the same SOP, while supermarke­ts, hypermarke­ts and shopping malls are allowed to open from 6am to 8pm, with no clothes fitting (trying on clothes) allowed.

Clothing and fashion stores can operate from 10am to 8pm, following the same SOP with no clothes fitting allowed.

Dobbies (including self-service) are allowed to open from 8am until 10pm, with no folding of clothes inside the premises.

Furniture shops, goldsmiths, electronic shops, hardware shops, stationery shops, pet shops, phone shops, optic shops and computer shops are allowed to open from 10am to 8pm, while workshops, tyre shops, and spare parts shops are allowed to open from 8am to 8pm, following the same SOP.
