Mum, four sons as their resort razed
A woman and four of her sons perished while her husband and three other children survived when fire destroyed their resort at Kampung Binsulok in Membakut on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
KUALA PENYU: Five family members perished when fire destroyed their resort at Kampung Binsulok in Membakut, here on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The victims were identified as Aishah binti Jumat, the 58-year-old mother and her sons Dzulkarnain bin Othman, 34, Dzulnisham bin Othman, 27; Rozaini bin Othman, 26, and Rosdi bin Othman, 24.
Four other family members however managed to escape the fire believed to have happened around 2.50am.
The survivors are Othman b Ali, the 64-year-old father and children, Awrita bt Saidul, 27, Dzulaika binti Othman, 25, and Zulkifli bin Othman, 29.
Fire and Rescue Zone 2 chief Awang Mohd Babree said the Kuala Penyu fire station received a distress call at 2.54am and three fire engines with six fire and rescue personnel were immediately deployed to the location.
According to Awang, investigation believed the family members were staying at their resort to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri together.
Fire and rescue personnel however had a hard time reaching the location due to the condition of the road that was narrow and slippery, he said.
Fire and rescue personnel managed to control the fire around 4.15am before finding the charred remains of the five victims among the debris.
The bodies were handed to the police for further action before the operation ended at 10.30am.
The cause of the fire and total loss are still under investigation.
