Young GOF personnel who suffered a stroke sent home to Kedah

SANDAKAN: The Battalion 20 of General Operations Force (GOF BN 20) in Beluran has arranged a flight to send a young GOF personnel who suffered a stroke to his home in Alor Setar, Kedah.

Lans Corporal Mohamad Syazwan Othman, 28, was found to be paralyzed on the right side of his body (hemiplegia) by specialist­s at Hospital Duchess of Kent here.

He was sent to his home town in Sungai Petani, Kedah via Royal Malaysian Police’s King Air flight from Sandakan Airport to Alor Setar Airport, Kedah at about 9am yesterday.

Mohamad Syazwan was an infantry personnel in GOF BN 20.

GOF BN 20 Beluran Commanding Officer, ACP Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir said that he had applied and arranged for the flight so that Mohamad could be taken care of by his family.

“The flight was immediatel­y approved by the Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

“This was decided considerin­g the difficulti­es faced by Mohamad Syazwan who does not have any relative here. Before this, we took turns to take care of him, especially his housemates,” he said.

The flight was led by Jimmy Roy from Royal Malaysian Police’s Air Force Team. GOF BN 20 Platoon Officer, Inspector Mohd Nazrin Shah Zulhakim accompanie­d Mohamad Syazwan to his home town.

Nasaruddin said that RM8,500 was also collected among the GOF BN 20 personnel as a donation for Mohamad Syazwan.

“We hope that this donation would ease the burden of Mohamad Syazwan and his family members who may need to pay for follow-up medical treatments.

“As Commanding Officer, I sympathize with the situation faced by Mohamad Syazwan. I will continue to ensure the welfare of this personnel and any other officers and personnel under GOF BN 20 will be taken care of in the future,” he said.

Mohamad Syazwan was sent off in a simple ceremony that was attended by officers and personnel of GOF BN 20. The ceremony was held in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
