Bajau Sama Cultural Centre not ‘white elephant’ project
KOTA KINABALU: The Association of Bajau Sama Sabah (PBSS) has denied allegation that the construction of the Bajau Sama Cultural Centre is a “white elephant”.
PBSS honorary secretary Mohd Kassim Razali said the project consultant had reported it was 93 percent done.
He said some works could not be done due to technical issues.
“We hope that the authority, consultant and contractor will be able to address the technical problems as soon as possible because the association needs to use the building,” he said.
He aid the claim that the project was a “white elephant” was baseless since the project had not been completed and had not been handed over officially to the association by the government.
He questioned the motive behind the claim.
He said that petty issue should not be politicised and added that the association plans to showcase the way of life of the Bajau Sama people, including their crafts and cultural heritage.
“We also plan to plant trees and herbs that are traditionally used by the Bajau Sama people for medicinal properties,” he said.
“Patrons will also be able to see the Bajau Sama people in their traditional attire and their horses.”
