Biodiesel tanker truck crashes into four vehicles

-

BINTULU: A tanker truck carrying biodiesel fuel crashed into four other vehicles at Jalan Kampung Jepak on Tuesday.

The impact of the crash caused the 31-year-old tanker truck driver to become trapped in his seat.

Members of the public managed to pull him from the wreckage before the arrival of rescuers.

Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station chief Christus Buson said they received a distress call at 6.33pm.

He said upon their arrival at the scene at 6.50pm, they found five vehicles were involved in the crash — the tanker truck, a pick-up truck, two cars, and a motorcycle.

It is believed that the tanker truck driver somehow lost control of his vehicle before he rammed it into the four vehicles, which were parked by the roadside.

Christus said the driver sustained a broken left thigh and other injuries.

He was given first-aid by the Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel before he being taken to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.

Christus said fortunately the accident did not cause a fire.

Firefighters later used foam to clean up the oil spill in the area.

No one else was at the scene of the accident or in the affected vehicles during the time of the crash.

The oil company later sent workers to the scene to transfer the fuel to another tanker.
