Teacher saves four teenagers from drowning

IPOH: “I was gasping a little for air and extra tired, but it was very important to save those teenagers from drowning,” recalled Muhammad Nor Imran Maula Abd Jalil whose heroic actions saving four girls from drowning has since went viral on social media.

Muhammad Nor Imran, 31, a teacher at the Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Muhammadiah, Bukit Lintang, without giving much thought for his own safety, dived into the canal at Kampung Teluk Sena, Kampung Gajah near Bota, on Wednesday to rescue four teenagers from drowning after the car they were travelling in skidded and plunged into the water.

Muhammad Nor Imran said he was on his way home from Kuala Kangsar to Hutan Melintang at around 12.20 pm when out of nowhere a drenched teenage girl stopped his car, asking for help.

“After I was told of what happened, I quickly went over to check and saw four people in the canal and there was strong current too.

“Two of the teenagers were clinging onto the branches, while the other two were swept away by the strong currents so I rescued them first, with one of them was already unconscious by then,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

Muhammad Nor Imran said he quickly tried to rescue two other teenagers who were swept away by the strong current after the branches they were clinging onto broke and eventually succeeded.

“Coincidentally, a couple was passing by and they performed CPR to the unconscious girl. Thank God she recovered,” he said, adding that he immediately contacted the nearest police station for assistance.

Muhammad Nor Imran said although it was not the first time he had saved people from drowning, he admitted that he was extra exhausted as he had not done it for a very long time and wearing a pair of tight jeans didn’t help either.
