Last two Covid-19 patients discharged from Miri hospital

-

MIRI: The remaining two Covid19 patients at Miri Hospital were discharged on Wednesday.

Minister in-charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee Datuk Lee Kim Shin confirmed this in a press statement yesterday.

“We are happy for the two recovered patients. We wish them good health and happiness, especially during this festive season.

“Our committee also wish to express our thanks and gratitude to the medical personnel, frontliners and all those concerned for their dedication, commitment and perseverance in overcoming the complex Covid-19 challenges.

“Against all odds, we have successfully converted Miri to Green Zone on May 9, and on May 27, the last two Covid-19 patients were discharged,” he said.

He added that since the beginning of the pandemic, the committee had been putting in concerted effort in carrying out various preventive measures and health strategies to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The latest on-going exercise involves setting up a Contact Tracing Task Force to screen all students returning to Miri from all over Sarawak.

According to one of the (discharged) patients who spent 62 days at the hospital, the experience was nerve-racking.

“I was in a very difficult situation, and didn’t know if I would ever go home safely. I will be undergoing a two-week quarantine at a designated location,” he said.

“It was a painful experience. After 10 swab tests I finally got the good result,” he said.

The other patient said he was emotionally and psychologically shocked when he was first admitted into hospital after he contracted Covid-19.

“I’m very thankful to every frontliner at the hospital who have carried out their duty thoroughly and professionally. Thank you,” he said.
