Tambadaus raring to be in action

- By Lester J. Bingkasan

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tambadaus head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto said ‘it would be a good news’ should the Super League is allowed to resume.

He said it was what they had been hoping for after football activities in the country were put on hold for the past twoand-a-half months due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) that led to the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“It is certainly a good news if the league is to take place again because this is exactly what we have been hoping for.

“The training programmes that the players are carrying out from homes will continue next week... we want them to be fully ready and in top shape should the league is allowed to resume in September,” he said here yesterday.

The Malaysian Football League (MFL), which operates and manages the country’s top football competitions including the Super League, had planned for a September return of the league which had been suspended since March 16.

However, there is no decision or an official announcement yet regarding the MFL plan.

Commenting further on Sabah Tambadaus, Kurniawan expressed hope that the state senior squad could return to training on the field as soon as possible.

He said they had requested to use the football field and he hoped it would get approval very soon.

Having said that, the former top Indonesian striker stresssed that they would accept whatever decision from the government for the good of all, especially with the Covid-19 situation.

“The safety and health of everyone is of utmost importance and we will follow the advice from the government,” he assured.

For the record, the Super League had only completed four rounds of matches before it was suspended until further notice due to the outbreak.

Sabah Tambadaus are fourth in the table, five points after collecting as many points from one win, two draws and a defeat.

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) lead the 12-team table on 10 points followed by Perak on eight points and Pahang on six points.

Meanwhile, Kurniawan said he spent the Hari Raya celebration with his wife and children at home here this year.

“It was different this year but we have been keeping in touch by making video calls to our families and friends back home in Indonesia during this festive occasion,” he said.
