Fatin appointed lawn bowls developmen­t coach

Fatin Aqilah Amran has been appointed as the state lawn bowls developmen­t coach. The appointmen­t by the Sabah Sports Council (SSC) was confirmed by Sabah Lawn Bowls Associatio­n (Bowls Sabah) president Datuk Ladislaus Maluda.

KOTA KINABALU: Fatin Aqilah Amran has been appointed as the state lawn bowls developmen­t coach.

The appointmen­t by the Sabah Sports Council (SSC) was confirmed by Sabah Lawn Bowls Associatio­n (Bowls Sabah) president Datuk Ladislaus Maluda.

Ladislaus believes the experience­d Fatin was an ideal pick for the task, especially with her background as a former Malaysia Games (Sukma) athlete as well as having represente­d the country in numerous competitio­n.

Other plus points for Fatin are that she has always been participat­ing in most ofBowls Sabah tournament­s and thus maintained a very close rapport with the junior players.

Ladislaus went on to say that Fatin’s job as a part-time commercial fitness trainerwil­l also be a great help in her new role as the state developmen­t coach.

“I am fully confident of her capability to produce future potential junior athletes to fill in the void when our present Sukma athletes exceeds the age limit.

“If budget permits, we may request her to coordinate and conduct junior clinics in other districts where greens are available to identify potential talents,” he texted yesterday.

For the record, Fatin represente­d Sabah in the Pahang Sukma 2012 and Perlis Sukma in 2014 and returned with silver medals in both Games.

Fatin, who completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), was also an athlete for the Higher Learning Institute from 2014-2015.

The 26-year-old also represente­d Malaysia between 2016-2017 and won a bronze medals in the Pre-SEA Games tournament in 2017 while she also made the top eight in the Champion of Champions 2018 tournament.

Meanwhile, Fatin pledged her best in carrying out her duty as the state lawn bowls developmen­t coach.

She revealed one of the first things she wanted to carry out was to make improvemen­ts to the existing develoment programmes as well as on past programmes that have been implemente­d.

“Apart from that, I want to further promote lawn bowls and also to unearth new talents and may some of them will go on to represent the state or the country in the future.

“I last represente­d Sabah in 2016 and after that I was in the national team. So, the experience that I gained, I will surely share with the new talents and applied them in training,” she said yesterday.

Towards this end, Fatin thanked both the SSC and Bowls Sabah for their faith in her to be the developmen­t coach for Sabah lawn bowls.
