Trader fined for failing to put price tag on LPG cylinders
TAWAU: Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) issued a RM1,000 compound to a trader for failure to place price tag on goods on Thursday.
Its district enforcement chief Aslani Dabi in a statement said a team of Tawau KPDNHEP enforcement officers conducted regular inspections around Taman Sejati and Kuhara Road and found a retail shop had failed to put price tags on the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) displayed in front of the premises for sale.
The dealer's failure to place a price tag is an offence under Subsection 3 (1) of the Retail Dealer Order (Pricing Order) 1993, he said, adding the manager of the premises concerned was aware of the error.
In the same area, he said, a trader was issued RM200 compound while a corporation was clapped with a RM1,000 compound for using an expired weight and measure instruments.
Both traders violated section 14 (6) of the Weights and Measures Act 1972.
He said KPDNHEP Tawau regularly monitors and inspects all business premises in the area and advised traders to conduct ethical business activities in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to sell regulated goods such as face masks and sugar according to gazetted prices.
Aslani warned that KPDNHEP would not hesitate to take appropriate action against traders who violate and commit offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profit Act 2011 and other enactments.
In addition, traders are also warned not to sell goods at unreasonable prices, not to hide or withhold items such as face masks from reaching the market for the purpose of price manipulation.
Consumers are also advised to lodge a complaint to KPDNHEP if they find that a seller is selling controlled goods such as face masks and sugar in excess of the prescribed price and the trader is profiteering.
