Anak Negeri won’t pursue merger plan

-

RANAU: Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri will not pursue the merger plan the party signed with Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) on March 16, this year.

Its president, Datuk Henrynus Amin, said Anak Negeri had opted out of the merger plan following the earlier withdrawal of PGRS to pursue their own political agenda.

Henrynus did not give specific reasons why Anak Negeri opted out of Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s group to take over and rebrand PCS but simply said Anak Negeri has a different political agenda.

He said the formation of Parti Kesedaran Rakyat Sabah is not a political merger, but merely the rebranding of PCS with Anifah as the new president.

“I do not rule out possible cooperation, even merger between Anak Negeri and PGRS since the two political parties share similar aims and objectives,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Henrynus, meanwhile, congratulated Anifah and Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing for being elected the new president and deputy president of PCS.

He said Anak Negeri will continue its political struggle with PGRS as its future coalition partner under the banner of Gagasan Sabah based on political its vision, mission and strategic goals.

Anifah a former foreign minister who remained without a party since leaving Umno in September 2018, won the presidency of the PCS - a state opposition party uncontested after its incumbent, Bumburing, made way for him.

The PCS members also voted Bumburing as deputy president of the party during their second biennial gathering held at a hotel here on Sunday.

Another former federal minister, Datuk Ewon Ebin, was made one of the party’s five elected vicepresidents. Also among those in the line up for the supreme council was former Upko’s Putatan member of parliament Datuk Marcus Mojigoh.

The members also voted to rebrand PCS as Parti Kesederan Rakyat Sabah (PKRS) and also changed the party’s logo and flag.
