Proposal for night food market hawkers to join association

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Gaya Street Hawkers Association Kota Kinabalu has proposed that hawkers operating at the Api Api Night Food Market must become members of the association for the common good.

Incumbent Api Api assemblywoman, Datuk Christina Liew, said the association’s chairman Lee Chee Kong brought the proposal to her attention during her walkabout at the weekly market on Sunday.

She expressed the hope that Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) would consider the proposal which had been submitted by the association in the interest of maintaining cleanliness and the hawkers’ well-being.

“I will raise the matter with the mayor tomorrow (Monday),” she said.

According to Lee, the Sunday Market hawkers had complained about litter left behind by hawkers at the Api Api Night Food Market on Saturday.

“Used cooking oil is polluting the place and food wastes are clogging the drains,” he lamented. “If all hawkers join the association, their trading activities will be better-regulated.”

The Api Api Night Food Market on Friday and Saturday (from 6pm to 12 midnight) was initiated by Liew and started operation on December 1, 2018.

Meanwhile, a random survey found that the Sunday Market hawkers were happy with the Warisan-led government.
