Mr Borneo will go ahead as planned
The Mr Borneo Bodybuilding and Physique Championship 2020 will take place as planned on December 18.
KOTA KINABALU: The Mr Borneo Bodybuilding and Physique Championship 2020 will take place as planned on December 18.
President of Sabah Bodybuilding Association (SBBA), Joannes Staneslous, made the confirmation after it was decided during the organising committee meeting here recently.
Joannes however said they were also ready for any eventuality, especially when the country is still battling the Covid19 pandemic.
“For now, the championship will go ahead as planned. Hopefully the Covid-19 situation in the country will have improved by then,” he said yesterday.
Having said that, Joannes assured that they would comply with the standard operation procedure (SOP) when organising the championship.
He said the safety and health of all those who would be involved in the championship would be their utmost priority.
“It will be the first tournament that we will organise under the current situation and of course we will observe the new norms.
“We will follow all the SOPs and that would include limiting the people entering the hall. We are also planning to limit the number of entries but we have yet to come to a decision...we will make an announcement once the final decision is made,” he added.
Meanwhile, Joannes said there are eight categories to be contested in the one-day championship.
The main event will be the Mr Borneo, a body building contest, where it is open to athletes from Sabah as well as Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Athletes competing in the Mr Borneo will need to pay RM100 for enrty fee and the top five winners will take home cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,000, RM800, RM500 and RM300 respectively.
The other categories are the men’s bodybuilding closed for over and below 70kg. It is only open to Sabahan bodybuilders or those who have stayed in the state for at least six months.
There is no entry fee for the categories which are offering RM300, RM250, RM200, RM150 and RM100 respectively for the top five winners.
The other five categories are the men’s athletic physique 170cm and above, men’s athletic physique 170cm and below, women’s athletic physique (open), women’s body beautiful and men’s body beautiful.
The entry fee is RM100 and the top five winners in each category will take home RM1,000, RM800, RM500, RM300 and RM200 respectively.
“The pre-judging for all the categories will be from 8.30am to 4pm and to be followed by the finals starting at 7pm,” he said.
