Perikatan Nasional registered entity – RoS
KOTA KINABALU: Registration of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) has been approved with effect from August 7 under the political category, in line with the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 335), according to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Referring to the claim that information pertaining to the registration of the PN was not on the record, RoS in a statement yesterday, said that the party had been registered through the issuance of registration certificate PPM-019-14-07082020 which had been approved and signed by the RoS.
“The party’s registration certificate, logo and constitution have been signed and presented to the PN as soon as its registration was approved,” the statement said.
Yesterday, PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had challenged Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to show proof of PN’s registration status.
He said if it was true that PN was not officially registered, the Election Commission (EC) should take immediate action by cancelling the candidacies of everyone contesting under the coalition’s ticket in the state election scheduled to be held on Sept 26.
Shamsul in a statement stressed that election is an important platform for the people to practise their rights as citizens.
“They have the right to choose candidates from parties that are legal according to the law. If the candidates representing an illegal organisation are allowed to contest, that will be an insult to the parliamentary democracy system in Malaysia and also the people of Sabah,” he said.
PKR deputy youth chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman also said he had checked the website at ros.gov.my, but found no record of Parti Perikatan Nasional.
“I also searched ‘Perikatan Nasional’ and ‘Prikatan Nasional,’ but no record of registration was found.
“According to media reports, Parti Perikatan Nasional had allegedly applied for registration on or before August 20, 2020. Therefore, I urge the Registrar of Societies to enlighten the situation on the status of registration for Parti Perikatan Nasional,” the statement read.
Syed Badli further said if it was true Parti Perikatan Nasional had failed to register, it would mean all candidates contesting under the PN flag in the Sabah state election should be cancelled.
He urged the ROS to provide clarification on the matter.
RoS yesterday said the claim that information pertaining to the PN approval was not included in the RoS system was incorrect as any organisation’s approval was updated in the system automatically every two months.
“The approval status of the PN will only appear on the website in early October, as it was issued in August,” it said.
However, RoS said that if there was a specific search in the eROSES system it would show that PN was approved on August 7.
“Any party information available in the eROSES system, however, can only be accessed by the party’s secretary,” it added.
PN represented by its component parties PPBM, STAR and SAPP, will be contesting 29 seats in the Sabah election.
