BN, PN can’t decide CM candidate

KOTA KINABALU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) has challenged the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) candidates in Sabah to state their stand on their preferred chief minister candidate.

DAP International secretary, Teo Nie Ching, said the state opposition’s chief minister candidate would most probably come from either Umno or Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) - both of which had made controversial statements on vernacular schools.

“When you ask for political stability, you should vote for Warisan Plus not Perikatan Nasional or Barisan Nasional as they can’t even decide their chief minister candidate.

“It’s very likely that the chief minister will come from Umno or Bersatu. Umno has the upper hand because they contested in 26 seats while Bersatu only has 19,” she told reporters during a gathering with Warisan Plus candidates Phoong Jin Zhe (Luyang) and Tan Lee Fatt (Likas) at Likas, on Monday.

Teo said that Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is the popular choice to be the next chief minister for the state opposition.

“What Bung Moktar mentioned in Parliament is so uncalled for. He said that vernacular schools are the cause for disunity in Malaysia.

“We also have a deputy minister (Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal) from Bersatu calling for the abolishment of vernacular schools,” she said further.

Since MCA had always said that they would ‘live or die’ with Chinese schools, Teo opined that the party should answer to the people.

“If they really want to protect and love the Chinese education, they should not endorse such leaders,” she added.

Also present in the gathering was Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim.
