Sandakan voters not happy, says MCA deputy president

-

SANDAKAN: Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) deputy president, Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, said the voters here were unhappy with the State Government as they had trusted their promises in the past, but did not see any result.

“I think from the way they (the people) responded, they are unhappy; unhappy for several reasons.

“The State Government failed to deliver their promises. They are also beginning to see the importance of Federal and State governments working closely to manage the state in a better way and to get more resources for the people,” he said.

Mah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Education of Malaysia, said this when met during a walkabout session to introduce MCA-Barisan Nasional’s (MCA-BN) candidate for Elopura, Chan Boon Thian, in Bandar Kim Fung shoplots here, yesterday.

He said the response from the locals so far had been great and it showed a positive sign that the party stood a chance to win the Elopura seat.

“The people in Elopura have their needs and we are listening. Through good relationship between state and federal governments, if Elopura is represented by a BN assemblyman, we will be able to look after the welfare of the people here.

“I was told a few things need attention like upgrading of the old folks home and hospital here,” Mah said.

Meanwhile, Chan said his manifesto as a candidate in Elopura would be revealed soon.

“Very soon, I will share manifesto. As for now, the biggest problem the people face here is the decline of the economy. We hope that State Government will be in line with Federal Government to ensure that we have better days for the people in Elopura.

“When not in line, State and Federal governments will have some problems in terms of allocation, funding and administration.

“Of course if the state is in line with the federal, I am sure federal will give us very big support,” he added.

Chan, 40, currently holds the position as MCA Sabah committee member and MCA Sandakan division deputy secretary.

He is also known by the locals for his position as the chariman of Sandakan Health Clinic Advisory Panel.

Chan is facing five other opponents in the battle for the Elopura state seat with incumbent Chong Ket Kiun (Warisan Plus-DAP), Voo Min Gin (PCS), Chong Thien Ming (LDP), Siti Khairiah Sheikh Mohammad (Usno) and Mohamad Saini Ahmad Tang (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah).
