LDP’s candidate pledges to improve security in Elopura

-

SANDAKAN: Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) candidate for Elopura, Chong Thien Ming, pledged to solve the people’s problems that have fallen on deaf ears if he is given the mandate by the voters.

Chong said the best examples would be the problems faced by the residents of Taman Harmoni People’s Housing Project (PPR) here, where the people had been living in fear as there had been frequent criminal cases, especially robbery in the area.

“They have voiced out their concerns to me. This happened because Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) had stopped the security service in the area since eight months ago. So the residents are exposed to danger, especially in the wee hours with no security personnel guarding the gate.

“This could be arranged accordingly with SMC, but the previous elected representative had failed to address this problem,” he said.

Chong said he would continue to be close to the people and listen to their problems, so that he could put in effort to solve their problems, if he was chosen to be the people’s representative in Elopura.

He said this after a walkabout session in Kim Fung Night Market and meet-thepeople session in PPR Taman Harmoni here on Saturday evening.

Chong shared that there were several more problems faced by the residents in PPR Taman Harmoni, including uncollected rubbish, clogged drains and manholes, faulty street and staircase lights, and damaged gate.

“There are solutions to these problems such as to ensure that a proper contractor in charge of rubbish collection is appointed; cleaning and clearing of drains; providing allocation to repair gate and manhole; and changing of all lights.

“I will do all these if I win the seat, and I will start immediately after the election. This is my guarantee to the residents here,” he said.

Chong, 52, graduated from London Chamber of Commerce and Industrial (Law and Statistics), is born and raised in Sandakan and currently holds the position as Supreme Council member and Sandakan Complaint Bureau chief, and LDP Tanjong Papat division secretary.

He will be facing five other candidates in Elopura seat, including incumbent Calvin Chong (DAP), Voo Min Gin (PCS), Chan Boon Thian (MCA), Pak Andi @ Mohd Saini (PPRS) and Khairiah @ Siti Khairiah S. Mohd (Usno).

Elopura recorded 25,794 voters according to statistics from the Election Commission.
